At RISPA Children's Theatre, our mission is to nurture and empower young minds, aged 7-15, by providing them with a platform to discover, embrace, and excel in the world of theatre and performing arts. Our inclusive RCT program welcomes all children, regardless of prior experience, as long as they possess the enthusiasm to perform and the eagerness to develop as artists. Being a RISPA student is not a prerequisite for auditioning – we welcome everyone with open arms. Join us in this exciting journey of creativity and expression!

Brittany Steelhammer

RCT Director

Brittany Steelhammer, a proud RISPA Company Member Alumna, has been with RISPA since its inception in 2005. She performed in productions such as ALL SHOOK UP (Featured Dancer) and FAME (Ms. Greta Bell).

During her time at Milton High School, Brittany was active in musicals including FOOTLOOSE (Featured Dancer), “CINDERELLA” (Featured Dancer/Singer), “GREASE” (Marty), and “HAIRSPRAY” (Velma Von Tussle), earning a 2011 Schuler Hensley Award nomination for “Best Featured Performer.”

In her Sophomore year, Brittany became the only ever Sophomore to be invited to direct a Senior Directed One Act production alongside graduating Seniors. She then directed for the very first time a play called “ALMOST, MAINE”. From that moment, she felt that she had found something that she truly and fully loved to do. She went on to direct shows including another play titled “LOVE SONG”, and then her first musical, “I LOVE YOU BECAUSE”.

After graduating from Milton in 2011, Brittany attended The University of Alabama, earning a BA in Musical Theatre. Her college roles included “ANIMAL CRACKERS” (Jamison), “URINETOWN” (Pennywise), “DESIGN FOR LIVING” (Miss Hodge), “BLOOD WEDDING” (The Moon), “SHOWBOAT” (Ms. O’Brien), and “MERRILLY WE ROLL ALONG” (Gussie). She won awards such as “Best Freshman Award” and the “Marian Gallaway Award for Excellence in Acting” and became the first undergraduate to choreograph a departmental musical, “A NEW BRAIN”. In her spare time, Brittany taught at the local Tuscaloosa, AL Elementary and Middle Schools, heading their after-school drama programs, during which she directed “THE LITTLE MERMAID JR”.

Following graduation, Brittany joined the Disney College Program, working as a Character Attendant at Magic Kingdom before accepting a teaching position back home. Upon returning home in 2015, she taught Acting, Musical Theatre, and Cirque at Milton High School, directing “SEE ROCK CITY & OTHER DESTINATIONS”, which won “Best Actress” at the Georgia Theatre Conference.

Brittany then returned to RISPA, where she started the RCT Program and directed productions such as “ANNIE JR”, “LION KING KIDS”, “WILLY WONKA KIDS”, “CINDERELLA KIDS”, “ALADDIN KIDS”, and “ARISTOCATS KIDS”, as well as RTP productions like “FROZEN JR”, “ELF JR”, and “MATILDA JR”.

While directing RCT’s “JUNGLE BOOK KIDS”, Brittany discovered she had a knack for theatrical lighting and sound design and went on to design lights for multiple RISPA Company performances. Along with She also took on the role of RISPA’s website manager.

Brittany remains dedicated to theatre, focusing on training the next generation of performers and sharing her expertise and passion for the craft.
